Underwater Preserve
Novice and experienced divers will find adventure in the waters off the Upper Thumb. The Thumb Area Bottomland Preserve runs from the tip of Huron County near Port Austin to Wagener Park, south of Harbor Beach.
Also, the Pointe Aux Barques Lighthouse Museum houses photographs, artifacts and footage representing wrecks of the park of interest to both the diver and non-diver.
Following are the sport diver sites in the bottomland preserve, an asterisk designates areas marked by buoys.
. Beaches
Located about 5 miles northeast of Caseville on M-25. The shoreline is graced by a half mile of Lake Huron beach, with the inland area featuring nature trails. A campground is located across M-25 from the beach area and features a pedestrian overpass. Entrance to the park requires a motor vehicle permit. The day-use area is open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Beach area has hiking trails, bathhouse, shelters, running water and picnicking facilities.
Parks
This is the only-known location in the lower peninsula of Michigan of pre-Columbian Native American rock carvings. The site also features a 1-mile walking trail in the heavily forested 240 acre parcel which is open all year from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The park is located 4 miles east of M-53 on Bay city-Forestville Road and 1 mile south on Germania Road.
Though the hours of the archaeological site generally are Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend, Wednesdays - Sundays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., you should call ahead to verify it will be open. No fee required. Call (989) 856-4411 for more information.
Lighthouses
Located 6 miles North of Port Hope off M-25 on Lighthouse Road in Lighthouse County Park. The Pointe Aux Barques Lighthouse Society has been instrumental in lighthouse maintenance and upgrades as well as establishing events such as Heritage Days.
Visitors to the Lighthouse Museum can examine shipwrecks, old photos and a variety of antique items. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day from Memorial Day through Labor Day. There is a gift shop as well.
In 1849 the keeper's dwelling burned to the ground. The lighthouse tower and dwelling were rebuilt in 1857. This year the Ponte Aux Barques Lighthouse Society is conducting a 150th Year Celebration in honor of the anniversary.
Churches Huron County Nature Center - Wilderness Arboretum
Environmental education for all ages has been one of Huron County Nature Center's foremost objectives since its beginning as a Wilderness Arboretum in 1941. A variety of opportunities await.
In the past few years the nature center has added handicap accessible trails, built a pavilion, added restrooms, and maintained the many walking trails which run through the wilderness.

Museums The Arts Golf Courses Game Areas Marinas and Charters
The site, at the end of Promenade Street in Bay Port, has a hard surface (class one) launch ramp, meaning sufficient water depth for most boats pulled on a trailer and a skid pier. There are no marina facilities. Boaters are urged to follow the channel markers when entering the water because the pate is cut through rocks. Dredging has been completed. Parking available for the handicapped.
