Allen House

The Allen House is located at 303 N. Port Crescent St. in Bad Axe. This 1902 Dutch colonial home was built by Wallace E. Allen, the longest surviving mayor of Bad Axe, and opened to the public for the first time in 2004. Many of the home's features are original and it is furnished with antiques throughout. The museum also has a 1950's exhibit room and a gift shop featuring handmade items. It is open from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sundays in June and July or by appointment. Call (989) 269-7674.

Bad Axe Museum of Local History

The Bad Axe Museum of Local History is located on the second floor of the old city hall in Bad Axe, 110 S. Hanselman Street. Area artifacts dating from the mid-to-late 19th century are housed in this museum. The museum is open the third Sunday of each month from January through April or by appointment. Frank Murphy Museum

Murphy Museum, which offers a view of the birthplace and law office of Frank Murphy, Michigan governor from 1937 - 38, is open Memorial Day to Labor Day. Frank Murphy held roughly eight public offices. Hours are 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. seven days a week. The museum is also open by appointment. There is an admission charge of $2 for adults and $1 for children. Donations are welcome. The museum is located at 142 S. Huron Avenue, Harbor Beach. Great Lakes Lore Maritime Museum

Dedicated to the lives of those who sailed on the Great Lakes, this museum is located two blocks south of downtown Sebewaing and half a block west of Main Park on the corner of Center and Mason streets. Features include a video and education center, artifacts and ship models. The museum is open to the public Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 - 4 p.m. until October 15. Memberships to the museum are available. Starting at $20, memberships include quarterly publications on the progress of the gallery and entitle members to a 10 percent discount on any gifts at the gift shop. Groups are welcome. Grice House Museum

The old prism light from the Harbor Beach lighthouse and antique appliances and tools are highlights at the Grice House Museum, located just north of Harbor Beach along M-25. A rural school built in the 1800s has been added to the grounds. Built in 1874, Grice House survived the fire of 1881 and is one of the oldest homes in the city. Three rooms in the home are furnished with items from the late 19th century and early 20th century.

Grice House is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and on Sunday from noon - 4 p.m. The museum is open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Huron City Museum

Located about eight miles east of Port Austin on M-25, Huron City offers visitors a chance to step back into the 19th century. The museum is a restored lumbering town. Visitors can view the town church, a log cabin, the general store, the village inn, the Pointe Aux Barques lifesaving station, and two barns furnished with antique equipment.

The House of Seven Gables, a 16 room Victorian home constructed in 1881 by Landgon Hubbard, is also open to the public.

The season opens Memorial Day weekend and runs through the end of June on weekends only or by appointment. The museums are open full time starting July 1 through Labor Day from Thursday through Monday. September is weekends only or by appointment. Teachers are encouraged to schedule their field trips early. A few weekends are still open for weddings, but call now to book for 2005. Log Cabin Museum

Log Cabin Museum is located in Elkton. This museum is open from 1 to 5 p.m. the last Sunday in June for the annual Log Cabin Day in Michigan. It's also open during the Elkton AutumnFest. There is no admission fee. For an appointment, contact Leonard Bumhoffer at (989) 375-4387.

Luckhard Museum

The Luckhard Museum in Sebewaing at 590 E. Bay Road is a mission built for teaching the Gospel to American Indians. The museum is open the first Sunday of each month from June through September from 2 - 4 p.m. or by appointment by calling (989) 883-2539. It is also open at various times during the Sugar Festival in Sebewaing.

Pioneer Log Village

The Pioneer Log Village in Bad Axe City Park is open during the summer. The cabins include a pioneer home, school, blacksmith shop, chapel, general store and barn. Each building contains artifacts of local history. The log chapel features an 1882 pump organ and is available for weddingsby calling (989) 269-8325 or (989) 269-7674. The cabins are open to the public free of charge from 2 to 5 p.m. Sundays beginning Memorial Day through Labor Day. On June 25 and 26 special events will take place at the village to mark Log Cabin Day. Visitors also may view the log cabins by appointment. Call (989) 269-8325.

Pigeon Historical Museum

Located in Pigeon, the old Grand Trunk-Chesapeake and Ohio train depot in the middle of the village has been named a historical site. Pigeon's Historical Museum contains local memorabilia and artifacts. This year's special display is high school trophies, cow bells, and oil cans. Pointe Aux Barques Lighthouse Museum

Located at Lighthouse County Park about six miles north of Port Hope off M-25, tourists can examine shipwrecks at the Lighthouse Museum. The museum contains antique items and photographs of old shipwrecks. Restoration of an original roof and shutters to the keeper dwelling and the lighthouse tower is taking place. A gift shop is located in the museum. It is open Saturday and Sunday from noon - 4 P.M., Memorial Day through Labor Day. Donations are accepted. For more information, call (989) 248-3035.

An authentic Polish settler log cabin, the museum is located on Parisville Road, north of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parisville. The museum is owned by St. Mary's Catholic Church of Parisville. Call Clem Ulfig, (989) 479-9114, for an appointment. There is no admission charge.

Stafford Park Historical Chimney

The saw mill chimney was constructed in 1858 by John Geltz, a stone brick mason. It is all that remains of the lumber mill established that year by William R. Stafford. The chimney is 80 feet tall and still stands in perfect condition today. It is noted as one of Port Hope's historical landmarks. For more information, call (989) 428-4882.
